Win a pair of free tickets to the 2011 Silverstone Classic

I am delighted to announce my second free tickets competition of 2011, my first offer being a pair of tickets to this year’s first holding of the Donnington Historic Festival.

I am offering one lucky reader a pair of free, yes free tickets, worth £100 to attend this years Silverstone Classic.

The Silverstone Classic  for those that are not aware is now the world’s biggest classic motor racing festival with over 800 race cars and 7,000 classic cars on display. This year around 1000 E-types will be on parade to celebrate the 50th anniversary.

If you have attended previously I know you will have plans to go this year.  If you have never been yet, wake up, this is a great event for racing fans.  Believe me there are very few events where you can get within metres of the cars, talk to the participants, drivers, owners, and actually walk into the garages, pre and post race.

On top of this, there are several high quality races throught the day, stalls where you can offload your hard-earned cash, car auctions, entertainment, fun fair rides, car club displays (look out for Jaguar this year, they plan to have a massive turnout to mark the E-Type’s 50th anniversary), plus all manner of food and beverages.

If you want more information about what’s on when and what races are on the Saturday click here.

You may also be interested to know that Silverstone has recently launched the Silverstone Classic Racing Club, which provides privilege tickets and access benefits. Take a look.

So, I have a pair of free tickets to give away to one lucky reader, to attend the event on Saturday 23rd July 2011.  To be in with a chance to win the free pair of tickets all you have to do is to leave some comments on this post or others around the site.  The person that has made the most interesting contribution to the site  before 13th July will be awarded the tickets.

Have you attended the Silverstone Classic before?  Have you raced at Silverstone?  What’s your best Silverstone story?  Let’s hear your Silverstone stories here.

Wow, that’s certainly a few top names.

    Hi Will,

I’ve got two books full now, when I was at uni I’d spend my student loan money on going to as many motorsport events as I could, and I’d hang around outside the paddock after the action finished at the GP’s waiting for the drivers to come out, I’ve been at the track as late as 11pm waiting for drivers, but it was worth it as I got to meet some amazing guys. One of my favorites has to be Prof Watkins, as I was the only one to spot him and he was chuffed when I knew who he was. Another legend is Niki Lauda, I always treasure meeting him. My dad always says I should sell my autographs but I’m taking them to the grave with me!

  • Will Wynn says:

    Great story Heather.

Who’s autographs do you have in your book?

  • Heather says:

I’d love to win tickets for the Silverstone Classic, especially as I havent been able to go for the last couple of years.

My best memory from Silverstone was when I was walking around the paddock with my friends admiring the cars, when about 10 cars came past us to park, I spotted a tartan cap, and my heart skipped a beat, I followed that cap and pulled out my notebook and pen and waited patiently while the gentleman in the tartan cap chatted to friends. Eventually I was able to say “Hi Jackie, could I have your autograph?” As he signed my book, I had the biggest grin on my face as I couldn’t believe I was stood next to the legend that is Sir Jackie Stewart. I had that massive grin on my face for the rest of the day.

Meeting Sir Jackie started me off collecting the autographs of my motorsport heros, and eventually lead to my Yellow Shades Project where I’ve been trying to get motorsport stars to have their photo wearing a iffy pair of yellow shades. I’m hoping to get the photos signed and then auction them off for the Henry Surtees Foundation.

    Laurance,

I agree, not that I can remember the race exactly, but Mansell is my British favourite F1 driver of all time. He was a true racer, gave 100% no matter what. He should have won more championships than he did…

  • LAURENCE BUCKNALL says:

My favorite race was the 1991 British Grand Prix and the fantastic win for Nigel Mansell. What a fantastic Mansell mania day. What a win.

  • Will Wynn says:

    Ian,

I agree, especially those from the 1970’s, it is gripping stuff. Plus you can get so close to the cars and drivers just before they go out to race. Wonderful. I personally love the Group C racers, great looking cars.

If you have heard a formula 1 car at close quarters you will know what a fantastic sound it is. At last years Classic i stood in a pit box and heard 10 cars all starting up and running at the same time. Awesome. It doesn’t get any better than that.

  • Will Wynn says:

    Susan,

Your husband should he attend will love it, and will probably want to go every year thereafter, like all the people I know that go year after year. It is a great event for real car and racing enthusiasts.

    Will

  • Susan Mitchell says:

MY husband would love to go and see all the cars he has never been to one before

  • Will Wynn says:

    Linda,

Nice to hear your story. Only a few days to wait now until we announce our winner. What do you think your husband and son would most like to see at Silverstone Classic this year?

    Will

  • Will Wynn says:

    Chris,

Only a few days to wait now until we announce our winner. You may want to consider leaving some further comments on other posts on the site to help your case for winning. It will be a great event, the best Silverstone Classic ever I and they reckon…

  • Will Wynn says:

    Tony,

Sounds like you’re an E-Type man, and what’s not to like. I hear their will be 1000 E-Types at the Silverstone Classic, which will be a great sight.

I’ve got me eye on having one at some point, ideally in silver or gunmetal grey, red leather interior, convertible obviously.

    Absolutely beautiful car.

Its my husband’s 60th birthday this year. My son would love to treat his ‘old classic pop!’ (dad) to a fantastic day out to make his day a special one.

Unlike most 22 year old students, he drives a Jag XJ6 sport… consequently by the time he’s rustled up enough money to pay for the petrol to take his dad there – he can’t afford the tickets to get in!

He will have to save alot of beer money though for an E-type! 🙂

  • Chris says:

I would like some tickets so i can take my girlfriend as a surprise for her birthday as we are both massive petrol heads.

3 years ago spotted a soft top e type in an old house garage through a gap in the door its a rare one and probably still there, could easily find out. the guy might sell to the right person after having a chat with him , he got banned and never drove since , could provide details to right e type fanatic cant afford it myself so if bought by someone id like to have the occasional drive myself (thats not asking too much)

  • Will Wynn says:

    Tony,

Lovely to hear your story. Keep your fingers crossed you might win a pair of tickets free, courtesy of MyCarHeaven. Tickets arrived today, and I will announce winner on the 13th July.

Feel free to tell our readers any other stories you have, or leave comments on other pages.

    Thank you.

I used to love going to the Coys festival’s years ago with the wife. Just cant afford to come nowadays, it’s our silver wedding anniversary that week and would love to suprise the wife with a trip back there, here’s praying! PS., I’d love to see the new pits! Sat in a marquee there having lunch once ,a nice old guy sat with us got chatting and asked if I had a race license, coz he had a few classic cars and no driver for the next race ,he was gonna let me drive a priceless classic and didn’t even know me!!! Awesome!!! Shame I didn’t have a license!

  • Will Wynn says:

    Steve,

That a passionate sports car fan, to think about swapping one of the kids. It will be a great event, but fingers crossed you might win a pair of tickets free, and can keep the kid.

As always, I am looking forwards to seeing the Ferrari Owners Club of Great Britain display and race wise the Group C cars, what a noise. What would you really want to see more than anything else?

  • steve says:

Seeing all of the great photos on this site has reminded me how brilliant the event was last year and I would gladly swap at least one child for tickets to this years Classic (did I type that out loud? Don’t tell the kids 😉

  • Will Wynn says:

    Leah,
Nice little story. What is your Dads all time favourite car he’s owned? Maybe one that he still owns I suspect.

What classic cars’ does he still own?

What is your favourite car of the cars you Dad has owned? It would be lovely to hear the answers.

    Will

  • Will Wynn says:

    Alex,

Absolutely not. It is rarer to find girls that are into motor cars, racing, formula 1, etc., but I have come across many fans that are girls. Elle who writes for this site is one and there are many more I have connected with on my Twitter account. Very nice to see and always nice to get a girls opinion in what is a male dominated hobby/ sport/ pastime.

What would you most like to see at the event?

  • Will Wynn says:

    Phil,

Very nice, however, when you said “one real and true classic sports car”, I was expecting Jaguar E-Type, or something else. I was not expecting a Triumph Herald Convertible, which is why your comment brought a smile to my face.

Maybe you can tell us what it is like to own, drive and maintain…

    Will

  • Leah says:

My dad is a classic car fanatic and has owned several beautiful classic cars over the years and still has a couple now. Every year growing up as a child he would take me and my sister to the Classic Car weekend at Silverstone. We would camp for the weekend and it was so much fun, we looked forward to the event every year and having this bonding time with dad. I would love to win the tickets as it would be amazing to go back and experience the event as an adult and watch all the beautiful cars with my dad, i know it would make him a very happy boy!

  • alex says:

Is it wrong for girls to like cars as I would love to go to this.

  • Phil Darling says:

I would like to win the tickets, as I would bring all these classic racers back to reality, when they see my car in the carpark, they would ditch their Ferrari’s and Porsche’s for the one real and true classic sportscar – The Triumph Herald Convertible.

  • Will Wynn says:

    Stephanie,

I am sure you would love the event. I will announce the winner of the pair of free tickets on 13th July. Keep your fingers crossed. If you have anything else to say on the other posts on the site, feel free to do so.

  • Stephanie says:

I would like to win the tickets because I am a young beautiful looking mother of three and I really deserve to go.

  • Daniella says:

Really interested in seeing the cars and having taking my dad who recovered from a heart attack and is thankful to be alive.

  • Will Wynn says:

    Wendy,

It is a great event, no doubt your Dad would love it, assuming he is into car racing. Feel free to tell us a story about Silverstone or leave more comments on other blog posts around the site. Who knows you might win a pair of tickets.

  • Wendy says:

I would like a pair of tickets to take my dad to go and see the racing.
