“The race line-up for the 2011 Silverstone Classic is nothing short of sensational,” said Event Director Nick Wigley. “We have gathered together the finest categories from across Europe and our estimates suggest that the total value of cars competing over the weekend will be in excess of £300 million!”
As has become customary, live music will be a major feature of the weekend, with major concerts on the evenings of both Friday (22 July) and Saturday (23 July) to maintain the event’s Rocking and Racing tradition. Friday will be given over to some of the best tribute bands around, while Saturday’s concert is topped by Suzi Quattro, 10CC and Wishbone Ash. Entry to both concerts will be included within the circuit admission charge, which starts from just £35 when booked in advance at www.silverstoneclassic.com.
But the entertainment doesn’t stop there. Funfairs, shopping malls, an assault course, the Village Green, traction engines, hot-air balloon fly-outs and air displays are all part of the most remarkable show of the year.
One of the new events will be a pair of races for the E-type Challenge, an exciting new series celebrating the 50th anniversary of the E-type Jaguar. Up to 58 E-types in one race will set a new world record and will make an unforgettable sight. This landmark anniversary of one of the most beautiful cars ever built will also be celebrated off-track, with up to 1000 E-types on show in the model’s biggest ever gathering.
The E-type extravaganza will be a central part of the infield displays which are such an integral part of the weekend. More than 7000 classic cars will pack into Silverstone as a host of anniversaries are marked, with a record number of over 120 Car Clubs on show.
“The Silverstone Classic is the biggest and best classic racing festival in the World as well as Europe’s most entertaining car-themed event,” said event director Nick Wigley. “There is something to suit every dad in the country. A day out at the Silverstone Classic at the end of July is the perfect father’s day gift!”
