Our Top 10 cars from the 2021 Concours of Elegance

The 10th Concours of Elegance took place at the Hampton Court Palace on 3rd to 5th Sept 2021. It was a truly wonderful day, a wonderful event, like no other in the UK. Certainly there are only few events that I know of where you can see such unique and rare cars. Is always surprises me that I always see several cars for the first time, and believe me I have seen a lot of different cars in my lifetime. 81 of the rarest cars from around the world – many of which had never been seen before in the UK were in attendance. New for 2021 there was a new category “30 under 30 class” for those next generation of car enthusiasts.

A big well done to the organisers for hosting such a glorious event and what a wonderful event it was. Here are our top 10 cars from the show, our choices based on the cars we’d most like to own, drive or have in the my car heaven car collection.

1962 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta

A very unusual colour green, beautiful condition, 1 of 14 right-hand drive. In my opinion one of the most beautiful cars ever made.

1996 McLaren F1 GTR

Just beautiful. Who in their right mind would not want to have a drive this car. Great colour, great car. This is chassis F1/11R, one of nine built to 1996 specifiction.

1991 Ferrari F40 Berlinetta

One of my favourite Ferrari and cars of all time. Only 400 cars were meant to be made, but due to demand 1315 were made. This car was supplied new to Sir Stirling Moss in 1991. Its history file contains correspondence between Moss and Enzo Ferrari and later Ferrari’s Commercial Director Mario Clava. How cool is that.

1961 Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato

Like the Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta, in our opinion this is one of the most beautiful cars of all time. Only 19 of these cars were built. Stunning.

Ferrari 330 LM

This is not an original car, as they only made four Ferrari 330 LMs and only one of those was in right hand drive. This car has been painstakingly made by Bell Sport and Classic over a four-year period, and demonstrates a very high attention to detail and the quality of the craftsmanship. Bravo to al involved at Bell Sport and Classic. This car is apparently the owners pride and joy.

1934 Avions Voisin Type C-27 Aerosport (Best in Show winner)

What a beautiful car and work of art. Art Deco bliss.

2005 Ferrari Enzo

What a beautiful and unique colour. This particular Enzo, is one of only two finished in Grigio Alloy. Beautiful.

1957 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster

Again, in our opinion this car has to be up there as one of the most beautiful cars ever made. We love it.

1981 Lancia Beta Montecarlo Group V

This is where the little excited boy comes out in me. Would just love to drive this. Weighing only 780kg and with 473bhp is must be bullet quick and probably a handful.

1983 Lancia 037 Rally

Much like the Lancia Beta Montecarlo Group V, the 037 is just another car I desire and would love to own or drive one. Although visually similar to the Lancia Montecarlo/ Scorpion, nearly everything was changed for the 037.

1958 Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spider

Too some this is the most beautiful car ever made, to others it’s the car that appeared in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. There were only 50 long-wheelbase (LWB) Californias built, all bodied by Scaglietti. This chassis 0923 GT is the third car built. Beautiful.

1951 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 SS

Just a beauty. This particular Alfa Romeo 6C uses a one-off Ghia body. The SS references the Super Sport performance models associated with Alfa Romeo’s most high-performance models. This Alfa was displayed at Villa d’Este in 1997 and 2001, achieving a class win and second prize overall.

1966 Alfa Romeo TZ2

Just beautiful. This actual car finished first in class on the 1966 Targo Florio. Good for 152 mph.

1956 Bentley S1 Continental DHC Park Ward

Exquisite. Just love this car.

1958 Bentley S1 Continental 2-Door Coupe by James Young

The Bentley S1 Continental commanded a 50% premium above the standard S1, but for some this was not enough. In 1958 James Young introduced body design CT30, which you see above. Just 4 people optioned body design CT30. Very unusual and a beautiful colour.

1935 Hispano-Suiza M-70

It’s thought 17 cars were made, and no one is sure how many survive. Love it’s rarity, uniqueness and great two tone paintwork.

1907 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost 40/50 HP “the Silver Ghost“

Wow. Just look at it. This is a car that is something to behold, so imagine what it would have been like to see this in 1907 on the road. Bonkers.

This 40/50 was 12th car off the production line. It has a Roi-des-Belges body by Barker and finished in Aluminium paint. This car would break car record after record, and one record was driving between London and Pitlochry 27 times over a distance of 15,000 miles. Such reliable service provided the marketing backbone of the then-new Rolls-Royce Motor Company, rightfully earning that “best car in the world” title – one that is still used by the marque today.

1979 Aston Martin DBK901 “Bulldog”

The fastest car in the world, was an ambition Aston Martin had in the 1970s. This car had a 0.34 drag co-efficient, and Aston Martin aimed to reach 200mph, they achieved 192 mph. Aston Martin hoped to sell 25 cars, but pulled the plug on the project in 1981 due to cost concerns. This car has been fully restored recently and the current owner is going to try to achieve the 200 mph target Aston Martin set. Good luck.

1951 Jaguar XK 120 OTS

This car just looks like lots of fun. This particular car was raced at Le Mans 24 Hours in 1951 and finished 11th overall and 6th in class. Nice.

Okay, we did a very poor top 10, with 19 cars selected, but so many cars I could have chosen and so many left out.

A big well done to the organisers for hosting such a glorious event and what a wonderful event it was. The event was the busiest I’ve ever known it to be on the Friday, the day that I attended.
