Concours of Elegance 2022: the 10 Year Anniversary
At the heart of this year’s Concours of Elegance event sits a line-up of 70 vehicles rarely displayed in the UK.
Concours of Elegance was established on a quest to bring together the finest 60 vehicles in the world in honour of Her Majesty The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012. Now, as we fast approach Her Platinum Jubilee, their dedication to quality hasn’t changed, but the number has. This year, they will be showcasing a total of 70 one-offs, rarities and coachbuilt specials of all ages, many of which will have never been seen in the UK before. We love this event and we cannot wait.
They sit at the heart of an event that has grown year-on-year, evolving into a real destination for automotive and luxury; almost 1,000 glorious vehicles and over 50 premium brands will be on display at Hampton Court Palace for the Concours of Elegance this September. You can see just a few of the highlight cars below.
McLaren F1 GTR
Chassis 27R was the first McLaren F1 GTR ‘Longtail’ to have ever won a race, taking victory at the 1997 British GT Silverstone. This championship was the start of a successful career, as it soon followed with competing in the 1997 FIA GT Championship and the 1997 24 Hours of Le Mans, as well as the 1999 British GT Championship. It’s been restored and converted for road use by Lanzante.
Ferrari 365 P ‘Tre Posti’
This gorgeous design study is one of only two ‘Tre Posti’ cars designed to convince Ferrari of the advantages of a mid-engined design. It is Ferrari’s first full-sized 12-cylinder road car, with seats for two passengers located either side and slightly behind the central driver’s seat – an extremely rare and sensational forebear to the McLaren F1.
Bentley 4.5-Litre Vanden Plas
The Bentley 4.5-Litre was introduced as the 3-Litre slowly became uncompetitive, enabling it to compete with the power of its contemporaries in the late 1920s. The example on show is perhaps the greatest in the world, having undergone a painstaking restoration. The restorers remarkably renovated an original Rexine machine to allow the body to be re-covered with the exact same material that it left the factory with in 1929.
Lamborghini Countach ‘Periscopio’
Chassis 1120204 – a rare and desirable ‘Periscopio’ variant – was completed on the 17th July 1976 at the Lamborghini factory and was set in the memorable colours of Giallo Fly over Tobacco, matching the 1971 Geneva Motor Show launch car. It is one of only three right-hand drive Periscopios that were finished in this colour combination. This car was assigned to Lamborghini for a four-year restoration.
