Win a pair of tickets to Race Retro 2013.
The first of many competitions that we hope to have in 2013. Following on from a wonderful event last year, Race Retro will return to Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire, from 22 to 24 February 2013. Here is a little overview of what’s going on at the 10th Race Retro.
Chosen marques this year will be: Lotus and Alpine. To celebrate the rallying success of the Alpine, Club Alpine Renault are bringing the following…
- Well known Rally driver from 1970s, Roger Platt is bringing his Spanish 1968 Model A110 Berlinette, which has been much updated and has a 1600cc Engine.
- Former FIA WRC Rally Manager, ex- team manager of Ford and Audi Rally teams Charles Reynolds is bringing an ex works Alpine A110 berlinette 1800cc car driven by Jean Pierre Nicolas and co driven by Jean de Alexandris on the Rally Morroco 1971.
- Well know Alpine specialist Chris Rabetts is bringing the ex Pat Moss Carlsonn/Elizabeth Crellin A110 berlinette, run the 1970’s for the Roger Clark company Clarks of Narborough
- Former chairman of Club Alpine Renault Nigel Dodsworth is bringing an ex works A110 1800cc berlinette from the 1973 Championship winning year.
- John Wheeler is a prolific Alpine Enthusiast and restorer of the remarkable A110 berlinette from the team Dutch Rallycross team Vialle. It is a special 1800cc 16 valve car from 1977.
- Bob Gibson, a regular winner in all the UK hill climb and sprint events and a multiple champion, is bringing a much modified lightweight special berlinette A110.
Special Guests – making their Race Retro debut is Sir Stirling Moss (Sat) and Murray Walker (Sat and Sun) as well as more guests to be announced.
New for 2013: they will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Hillman Imp with a display of 5 or 6 significant Imp racing and rally cars under the mezzanine in Hall 1. There will be ex works team cars or those famous in their day as championship saloon racers. Imps still have a healthy following amongst historic motor sport enthusiasts.
New for 2013: the British Racing Mechanics will provide at least three historic Coventry Climax racing engines for display and a GRD F3 car which they will strip and rebuild on the stand during the show. It’s a chance for people to get up close and even get their hands dirty as they see the build take shape.
New for 2013: Whistling Billy! They will have the 1905 steam-powered White racing car ‘Whistling Billy’. This car has undergone a full restoration and rebuild. Event organisers are hoping to include it in the Fire Up Paddock.
All for now, but I’m sure this has given you a flavour of what you can expect at Race Retro 2013. To win a pair of tickets to this wonderful event all you need to do is tell us here why you’d like to go.

Many thanks. You are definitley going to enjoy this year as hopefully I will!
As a rally fan the list of machinery lined up for the special stage is truly mouthwatering and am really looking forward to seeing the Alpines, in action as one of my earliest rally spectating memories is seeing the little blue cars blasting through Bramham Park on a early 70s RAC. Yes I am that old!
Kind Regards
Chris
Hi Chris,
Great to hear you had a wonderful time. I did not make it for personal reasons last year, but I am going to get there this year for sure.
All the best.
Will
I was fortunate to get tickets for the show last year and it was superb! The rallycars on the stage put on a great show as my photos remind me, and with the works Renault team sending some of their more iconic cars to this years event and with there being an even better stage layout it can only get better still. The halls were packed with great machinery and there was lots of opportunities to spend on memorabilia and autojumble.
Sadly I went down with pneumonia a couple of days later (unconnected with my attendance!) so didnt get to share my views with everyone here, it wouldnt stop me going again this year though!
Cheers
Chris
Nothing beats the sound of the Group B rally cars, the turbo whistle and backfires that echo through the trees. He drivers aren’t just quick in a straight line, it is almost a requirement to go sideways. Race retro is a great event that can excite the slightest petrol head. Would love to take my dad as he has never been before and grew up going to events with group B rally cars. A truly excellent event.
Trevor,
Great comment, true, it’s the smaller events that you can get close up to the stars/ drivers and cars. That’s why I love Silverstone Classic, Donington Historic Festival, etc., these are great events.
I have been to Race Retro for the last two years and have enjoyed it more than the expensive Motor Racing events held at the NEC. The Racing legends that attend are much more approachable, especially for autographs which they sign freely. With Sir Stirling Moss and Murray Walker attending, this year should be extra special. The overall atmosphere of the place is so friendly, both show stands and traders. Both inside and outside displays are put together with a lot of effort e.g. Lotus and Alpine exhibits, and the rally stage is spectacular.A ticket to enable me to attend this year would be most welcome.
Because the chance to see group B cars at full chat and mix with race and rally heroes from yesteryear is unmissable – a truly great event !
