Plan your route ahead

Pulling over and checking a map is the last thing anyone wants to do during a road trip. For that reason, it makes sense to invest in some route-planning software to sort out all your directions in advance.

Sure, there are plenty of satellite navigation systems on the market today, and you’ll probably want to use one of those too. However, due to the lack of updates and other issues, there is a chance the sat nav could get a few things wrong. That is why it’s always handy to know the basics of your route in advance.

Perhaps you are planning a Staycation this year – somewhere in our own country; somewhere closer to home. With everything that’s going on at the moment, it can be hard to find a reliable foreign holiday. If the location is on the government’s list of approved destinations then great. But a lot of people are deciding to stay in their own country. Here’s some great tips for the road trip!

Create an emergency survival kit

If anything goes wrong during your road trip, there is a chance you could become stranded at the side of the road for many hours. When that happens, you’ll need food and other supplies to ensure you can remain safe and happy.

Create an emergency survival kit and keep it in the boot of your car at all times. At the very least, the bag should include:

  • Food and drinks
  • Spare clothing
  • Basic tools
  • Blankets
  • A first aid kit
  • And anything else you deem appropriate

Make sure your vehicle is safe and roadworthy

Lastly, it’s critical to make sure your car is safe and roadworthy before you leave home. It doesn’t cost a lot of money to MOT a car, which helps ensure it won’t cause any problems during the journey. With that in mind, contact your local garage and book an appointment as soon as possible.

You also need to make sure your car or motor home is legal, and that means you should dig out your paperwork and check road tax and insurance documents. If the tax on your vehicle runs out while you’re away, it’s possible the police might pull you over or something similar. That could become a real hassle when you just want to reach your destination.

So long as you can place a tick next to each of the suggestions in this article, you should manage to have a problem-free road trip with your friends or family members. Of course, you know your vehicle better than anyone else, and so it’s always wise to use some common sense and create a checklist of your own before you leave the house.

Wherever you plan to travel, be sure you have a fantastic time and make lots of happy memories!
