Watch the Gordon Murray T.33 on the Track Test
Gordon Murray, Dario Franchitti and the team at Gordon Murray Automotive have been hard at work developing & readying their new models. With the big brother T.50 (Gordon’s McLaren F1 “spiritual successor”), the insane track-ready T.50s Niki Lauda nearing the end of development and the T.33 shown here. The lineup is exciting, to say the least.
The T.33 Coupe as well as the T.33 Spider, is powered by a brilliant 4.0L V12 by Cosworth, that revs to a scintillating 11,100rpm. It is coupled with a 6-speed manual transmission for all that 3-pedal fun. All in a package just north of 2300lbs. GMA has made no claims on specific performance numbers for the car, but based on specs, we know it will perform well. However, what matters the most is the experience. Something Gordon Murray has made clear is at the forefront of his design ethos.
A Trifecta of Excellence
Gordon Murray Automotive has redefined the supercar landscape with this trio of extraordinary vehicles: the T.50, T.33, and T.33 Spider. Each model represents a unique interpretation of the company’s core principles of lightweight engineering, driver-focused design, and exceptional performance. Let’s see how they compare…
The T.50: The Pinnacle of Automotive Innovation
The T.50 is the flagship model, a groundbreaking hypercar that pushes the boundaries of automotive technology. Its revolutionary design, featuring a rear-mounted fan to generate downforce, sets it apart from the competition. Equipped with a naturally aspirated 600bhp V12 engine that revs to an astonishing 12,100rpm, the T.50 delivers a driving experience like no other.
The T.33: A More Intimate Driving Experience
Positioned as a more accessible alternative to the T.50, the T.33 retains the core principles of lightweight engineering and driver focus. While it lacks the extreme performance of its bigger brother, it offers a more refined and intimate driving experience. The T.33’s lower power output and more conventional design make it a more suitable choice for everyday driving, without compromising on performance.
The T.33 Spider: Open-Air Exhilaration
The T.33 Spider takes the core concept of the T.33 coupe and enhances it with the open-air driving experience. Maintaining the coupe’s exceptional handling and performance, the Spider adds a new dimension of sensory engagement. The sound of the V12 engine, amplified by the open cockpit, is a truly intoxicating experience.
A Shared Philosophy
Despite their differences, the T.50, T.33, and T.33 Spider share a common DNA. All three models prioritise driver engagement, lightweight construction, and aerodynamic efficiency. They represent a return to purist driving values, offering a refreshing alternative to the technologically complex hypercars dominating the market.
Gordon Murray Automotive has undoubtedly created a unique portfolio of vehicles that cater to different driving preferences. Whether you seek the ultimate performance envelope, a more refined driving experience, or the exhilaration of open-top motoring, there’s a Gordon Murray car to suit your desires, of you have the funds that is. The T.33, they say is likely to cost £1.37 million (around $1.57 million) at the time of writing. Doh!
