The best motor racing driver of my generation.
With AutoSport International only weeks away, and with ourselves being an official blogger for this event, we were asked to give our opinion on who we thought was the best driver of our generation. Did you enter our competition to win a pair of tickets by the way?
So where do we start…right up there has to be Michael Schumacher (7 time F1 World Champion), Sebastian Vettel (4 time F1 World Champion and counting…), Aryton Senna (3 time F1 World Champion), Alan Prost (4 time F1 World Champion), Sébastien Loeb (9 times winner of the World Rally Championship and 4 time winner of the race of Champions, which no one else in this list has one once), Nelson Piquet (4 time F1 World Champion). Have we missed anyone out?
All of the above in my mind deserve to be mentioned, however for me Aryton Senna and Nigel Mansell was the best time in F1 . Schumacher and Vettel are too unsportsmanlike for me and not what any sportsman or woman should be like, both have been seen barging competitors off the track, doing whatever it takes to win. They have no Corinthian spirit or compassion for others it seems.
I do not follow Rally so cannot comment on Sébastien Loeb, but no doubt he is an epic driver.
For me, the epic battles, classic racing, two very driven people, the Senna Mansell battles and respect for each other stick in my mind as the very best of F1 racing and respectful competitiveness. Regardless of the titles won and not won, Aryton Senna for me was and still is the best racing driver I’ve ever had the privilege of watching, so he has my vote for the best motor racing driver of my generation. Who would be the best motor racing driver of your generation?
