A Closer Look At The New Ferrari 296 GTS Hybrid Convertible

Prices for the new Ferrari hybrid convertible for the UK market are yet to be revealed, but there’s a likelihood it will cost £25,000-£30,000 more than GTB’s starting price of £241,560, according to latest news on Evo. Ferrari’s new convertible 296 GTS is a mid-engine hybrid supercar, competing with McLaren’s 720s Spider with its 819bhp and world class leading driver engagement levels. Maintaining Ferrari’s tradition, the 296 GTS is similar to the Ferrari 296 GTB, one of the upcoming supercars in 2022 everyone is excited about because of its sleek and sophisticated design. Read on to learn more about the features of the Ferrari 296 GTS hybrid convertible.

Retractable Roof

The retractable rooftop design of the 296 GTS Ferrari is like that of the Ferrari SF90 Spider, stowed behind the seats in a new bay built in the engine compartment. Engineers have also redesigned the rear deck of the 296 GTS with a resculptured buttress, a distinctive aero bridge spanning the width of the car, and a prominent step between it and the roof. Note that it takes the roof 14 seconds to close or open at speeds of 28mph. The roof splits into two sections that fold over to the engine’s front. These slight makeovers give an overall effect of a compact cabin integrated effortlessly with the flanks and wings.

V6 Engine

A 120° V6 engine paired with a plug-in electric motor that debuted in the coupe 296 GTB powers the open-top Ferrari 296 GTS. Ferrari’s 296 GTS engine and electric motor unleash a massive output of up to 819bhp. This means the hybrid convertible can go from zero to 62 miles per hour in 2.9 seconds and reach speeds of up to 205mph, matching the GTB.

Deliveries of the new hybrid convertible in Europe, the US, and Asia will start in early 2023. Considering the 296 GTS has an extra weight of 70kg compared to the coupe’s 1540kg, logistics companies will need well maintained vehicles to ship the model from place to place. Besides changing engine oils in compact track loaders, logistics companies might want to buy ASV tracks to enhance traction and efficiency.

Assetto Fiorano Performance

Like with the GTB, you can easily specify the 296 GTS with the Assetto Fiorano package. This track-oriented package brings adjustable multimatic shock absorbers, trim elements, and carbon fiber aero. It also has several weight saving features and high-performance cup 2 R Michelin Pilot Sport tires.

Ferrari’s 296 GTS is the hybrid convertible version of the 296 GTB, as they share similar features, from the power train to chassis components. This means the GTS features a V6 engine integrated with an electric motor and Assetto Fiorano package. The notable differences include the retractable hardtop, redesigned buttresses, and aero bridge.
