In the world of touring cars, few names carry the same weight as Andy Rouse. Between 1975 and 1985, he claimed an unrivalled four BTCC championships – each in a different car. That alone cements his status as a motorsport marvel.

Here’s a quick tour of his title-winning timeline:

  • 1975: Triumph Dolomite Sprint
  • 1983: Alfa Romeo GTV6
  • 1984: Rover Vitesse
  • 1985: Ford Sierra XR4

Notably, his last two titles came in cars built by his own Andy Rouse Engineering outfit, showcasing both his driving prowess and engineering flair.

Rouse will return to the circuit that shaped much of his success, appearing in person to present prizes during the Adrian Flux Trophy for MRL Historic Touring Car Challenge. This thrilling Sunday morning race, part of the Motor Racing Legends programme, will be dedicated to him.

In a particularly fitting touch, Rouse will also award a special trophy to the top-finishing Ford Sierra RS500, a nod to the car that brought him so much success – and still stirs the soul of touring car fans across the UK.

“It’s always great to see those cars still out there racing,” said Rouse. “The RS500 was special. It was raw, quick, and gave fans plenty to cheer about.”

The Ford Sierra RS500 Cosworth is a cult classic. A track weapon that dominated the BTCC and Group A scenes in the late 1980s.

Silverstone Festival will feature a hand-picked grid packed with these icons, marking 40 years since Rouse’s final title. Expect high-revving action and some incredibly close racing.

And for collectors, there’s even more excitement. Iconic Auctioneers will offer Rouse’s own Sierra RS Cosworth – the actual car from the 1990 BTCC season finale. In near-original condition, it hasn’t seen a starting grid since. Bids are expected to hit £250,000-£300,000.

His final race win came in 1992 at Silverstone – fittingly, the very place he’ll return to this August for the grand celebration.

Pierre-Antoine Lecoutour, CEO of Motor Racing Legends, put it best:

“Andy Rouse is a hero of British touring car history. To celebrate both the man and the machine at Silverstone is a dream come true.”
