Lotus Elite debuts at Paris Motor Show

Lotus has revealed an all new super car called the Lotus Elite.   Its looks good, well apart from the rear, but maybe this will be changed by the time it is ready for sale, apparently 2014.

This new show car has a 612 bhp 5.0 litre V8 engine which incorporates electric motors, although a petrol version will also be available. The new Lotus Elite is capable of 0-62mph in just 3.5 seconds and produces co2 emissions of 215g/km. The Lotus Elite will use a kinetic energy recovery system (KERS) to charge a battery pack powering twin electric motors. Its early days for this super car and it is not known if the car will able to drive on electricity alone.

The car is estimated to cost approximately £115,000. Lotus CEO Dany Bahar said “one could say it’s a car of perfect contradictions, it’s compact yet spacious, high performing yet low emitting, lightweight yet still reassuringly solid. There will always be those who believe that Lotus should stick to small sports cars but we didn’t take the decision to design something like the Elite lightly, it’s based on months of careful research and planning.”

What do you think?  Beautiful or not?  Personally I think they have got much right on this car, it is a very good looking car and the performance stats are impressive.  But, for me the rear is ugly and I feel the price is just too high.  There are many competitors that have cars just as good, if not better at better value: Porsche 911, Aston Martin Vantage, etc.  Maybe Lotus will make changes before it hits the showrooms, let’s hope so, it could be great if they sort that backend and price out.
