Denza Z9GT Arrives in the UK, Ushering in a New Age for the EV Market
While electric cars were steadily on the rise in the UK, headed by Tesla and a couple of legacy carmakers who’d tentatively released some EV versions of their most popular models, the market really kicked into gear once Chinese automakers entered the market. Much of this was down to lower price points, especially from BYD.
However, the electric car market in the UK has now matured enough to warrant further expansion. Now, BYD feels emboldened to not only take on the more accessible side of EVs, but also the supercar market. This year, the Denza Z9GT from BYD will begin to tear its way across British roads.
Expanding Across the EV Market
China has become a behemoth of electric vehicles, with the market being well ahead of most in the world, and not by chance. It has been over a decade in the works for the Chinese car market, with assistance and cash being made readily available to everyone from consumers to creators.
BYD itself pivoted from making batteries for smartphones to EVs because of these incentives. Now, BYD is not only capable of dominating at home, but also overseas despite the perception that consumers would prefer to side with well-known carmakers as they pump out new electric models.
The Denza Z9GT is the most overt competitor to this line of thinking, clearly poised to lock horns with legendary sports car brands like Ferrari, Porsche, and even the speed demons of Bugatti. The model coming to the United Kingdom soon rocks up with a combined output of 1,582bhp and 0 to 62mph in under two seconds and a top speed of 217mph.
You get all of this in a package that’s currently priced on the Denza website at £105,740 without the extra bells and whistles like digital wing mirrors. It’s an impressive price point, complete with extra tech that the Chinese market loves, like an Intelligent Cockpit and the impressive 12-speaker Devialet sound system.
Learning from the Chinese Market
China is becoming a trendsetter on the global EV stage, with the market’s affinity for touchscreen devices and on-the-go entertainment being catered to by carmakers. Models with back seat entertainment systems are becoming more coveted following the surge of interest in car camping.
People across China are transforming their EVs into bedrooms on wheels, complete with mini kitchens, entertainment screens, shelves, and beds. Some will be making use of the options in more standard electric cars, but those who’re going all-in on the trend pick up electric SUVs to maximize their time on the road.
It follows a more general trend of diverse and accessible entertainment options, from the hardware to the content itself. Like China, the UK market has become mobile-first for entertainment and more. You only have to look as far as Netflix’s app or the Great Britain casino, which is fully mobile-optimized.
In the case of the latter, every new game is made with a mobile-first mentality, being primed for smartphone play and touchscreen controls, as that’s where the players are. Plus, legacy slots like Game of Thrones and Fishin’ Frenzy have been remodeled to meet the mobile entertainment demand.
Both markets are accustomed to tapping into on-the-go devices for entertainment, smaller screens, and touch screens. So, EVs from China that include backseat screens or a setup that can feature screens have an additional selling point over here, perhaps ushering in the next phase of expansion from sports cars to SUVs.
Later this year, the Denza Z9GT from BYD will begin to challenge at the high end of the UK car market, bringing with it plenty of innovations that have proven to be hits over in China.
