How to See the Rare Porsche 964 Turbo S Leichtbau at London Concours 2026

London Concours 2026 is preparing to welcome one of the most coveted Porsche models ever produced. In particular, taking pride of place in the Porsche Sonderwunsch class, presented by Boxengasse, will be an exceptionally rare Porsche 964 Turbo S Leichtbau. This celebrated event, held at the Honourable Artillery Company from 9-11 June 2026, will showcase the final example built from a production run of only 86 cars. As a result, Porsche enthusiasts and collectors alike will have a rare opportunity to see one of Stuttgart’s most focused road cars up close.

A Lightweight Legend with a Special Story

Launched in 1992 through Porsche’s Sonderwunsch, or “Special Wishes”, programme, the 964 Turbo S Leichtbau was created with one goal in mind: delivering a purer driving experience. Therefore, it became one of the most focused road-going Porsches of its era.

While based on the standard 964 Turbo, the Leichtbau took performance and weight-saving measures much further. The result was a sharper, more engaging machine that quickly earned a reputation as one of the most desirable air-cooled 911s ever built.

Today, it remains one of the rarest factory-built turbocharged Porsche models.

How Porsche Removed Weight and Added Performance

Engineers approached the Leichtbau with a clear philosophy. Anything that did not contribute directly to driving enjoyment was either reduced or removed.

Key weight-saving measures included:

  • Removal of the rear seats
  • Deletion of power steering
  • Manual windows replacing electric units
  • Reduced sound insulation
  • Lightweight composite doors
  • Lightweight bonnet and rear wing
  • Thinner glass throughout
  • Lightweight RS bucket seats

These changes helped cut approximately 180kg compared with the standard 964 Turbo. Consequently, the Leichtbau tipped the scales at just 1,290kg, delivering noticeably sharper agility and responsiveness.

However, Porsche did not stop there.

The turbocharged 3.3-litre flat-six engine received a substantial boost in performance. Output increased to 381bhp, 61bhp more than the standard model.

Upgrades included:

Together, these modifications created one of the most focused Porsche road cars of the early 1990s.

The Final Example Built

The car heading to London Concours is notable even among Leichtbau models.

Finished in Grand Prix White, it features an eye-catching Exclusive Flamenco Red leather interior. Purple wheel centres and gold brake calipers add further individuality.

Its rarity is remarkable:

  • One of only 86 Leichtbau models produced worldwide
  • One of just 11 UK-supplied right-hand-drive examples
  • Chassis number 86 of 86
  • The final Porsche 964 Turbo S Leichtbau ever built

That combination makes it one of the most significant examples in existence.

Porsche Sonderwunsch Class Celebrates Individuality

Furthermore, the class celebrates Porsche’s ability to blend engineering excellence with customer-driven individuality. Meanwhile, additional vehicles for the display are expected to be announced in the months leading up to the event.

As a result, it promises visitors a fascinating look at some of the most distinctive cars ever to leave Porsche’s workshops.

Porsche Perfection Day Returns
