Ariel launches new 525bhp motorsport-spec ‘Atom 4RR’ and it’s a belter

Crewkerne, UK (9 April 2026) – Ariel Motor Company, the UK high-performance manufacturer of ultra-lightweight road, track, and off-road vehicles, has launched its newest and most powerful model to date, the track-oriented Ariel Atom 4RR. Developed to celebrate 25 years of the Ariel Atom, the bespoke, built to order 4RR is fully circuit-optimised, yet road-legal, promising the most focused and intense driving experience in the company’s history.

Single-mindedly engineered to eclipse supercar performance on track, the 4RR introduces a truly one-of-a-kind, handbuilt, motorsportspec engine producing 525bhp and revving to 8,200rpm. The bespoke powerplant is paired with motorsportgrade components with every aspect of the 4RR reflecting Ariel’s obsessive pursuit of performance and purity, making the 4RR the most intense expression of the brand’s engineering philosophy ever.

The new model is the quickest Atom ever, capable of 0-62mph in 2.4 seconds, powering on to 100mph in just 5.1 seconds. The Atom 4RR is built on a quartercentury of performance innovation, representing the ultimate evolution of one of the UK’s most iconic lightweight performance cars.

The fastest Atom ever created

The Atom 4RR collates 25 years of iterative development and engineering expertise to deliver like never before on Ariel’s ‘Serious Fun’ ethos. Every component is selected for its ability to sharpen performance, improve laptimes, enhance consistency and heighten driver engagement. The result is a car intended for the most demanding and enthusiastic trackoriented owners – a machine that rewards commitment whileretaining driveability.

Despite its focus on ultimate circuit performance, the 4RR remains a roadlegal vehicle, engineered with the same simplicity, innovation, and mechanical honesty that has defined the Atom since its launch in 2000. Each Atom 4RR will be uniquely specified and entirely built-to-order with buyers invited to Ariel’s Crewkerne factory to specify and discuss their perfect Atom with the engineers and technicians responsible for constructing their car.

Bespoke 525bhp / 550Nm / 8,200rpm motorsportspec engine

At the heart of the Atom 4RR sits a completely bespoke engine, hand-built over 100 hours, designed and specified uniquely for this model. While its heart lies in the robust and reliable 2.0L four-cylinder Honda K20C Type R unit, almost every significant internal and external component is replaced, upgraded or reengineered to motorsport specification.

The result is a unique, oneoff, competitiongrade engine producing 525bhp with immense torque, razorsharp response, and the precision expected of a true track machine.

Internally, the engine is comprehensively uprated with closed deck sleeves, bespoke forged pistons and connecting rods, revised cylinder head and port geometry, bespoke camshafts and alloy valve set with uprated springs and guides. All rotating components are measured, fully weight‑matched and dynamically balanced. 

With circuit running a primary focus, the 4RR engine features a race‑spec gated oiling system and a high‑flow oil pump ensuring consistent lubrication under prolonged high engine loads and cornering. Performance and durability are further enhanced by a competition‑grade head gasket with reinforced fire‑ring sealing and a race-spec cylinder‑head stud kit designed to withstand extreme cylinder pressures.

A larger turbocharger peaks at 1.7 bar boost, while a high-pressure fuel system and 1400cc fuel injectors deliver immense mid‑range torque and a ferocious top‑end – maintaining the consistency and resilience required for circuit use. The 4RR features three cockpit-adjustable engine maps with different boost levels: Map 1 – 400bhp / 380Nm; Map 2 – 500bhp / 450Nm; Map 3 – 525bhp / 550Nm. Each hand-built engine is run-in and tested on a dyno before final calibration and power tests. An individual dyno graph will accompany each bespoke Atom 4RR engine. 

A new carbon air inlet system, with remote air filter assembly, and an all-new full titanium exhaust and silencer system are fitted to the Atom 4RR. Power is delivered through a Quaife six-speed sequential gearbox with lightweight drive discs, motorsport differential and pneumatic paddle shift, ensuring traction and consistency at all times. Clutchless up and down shifts can be made with auto-blip on downshifts and the lightweight clutch only used for initial start.

Motorsportoptimised chassis, suspension and braking

The 4RR’s chassis is a fully bronzewelded, motorsportoptimised structure offering significantly increased strength over previous Atom generations. To complement this, the car features fully adjustable twin tube Öhlins dampers, adjustable for compression and rebound, machined aluminium uprights, aerofoil section adjustable chromoly wishbones and pushrods. The full adjustability allows owners to set up the 4RR for different circuits and to suit their individual driving style. 

Braking performance comes from new AP Racing 310mm two-piece ventilated discs – the largest that can fit within the Atom’s wheel set – paired with AP unequal-size, four piston motorsport calipers and racespec pads. Cockpit adjustable motorsport ABS features 11 stage adjustment as well as an OFF position, all selectable while driving. The braking system gives the 4RR phenomenal braking ability while maintaining consistency, heat management and pedal feel over repeated hard laps in all weather conditions. 

Aeroled performance and lightweight construction

Ariel has developed the 4RR’s aerodynamic package to optimise downforce without introducing unnecessary drag, resulting in a car that is both devastatingly fast in corners and exceptionally stable athigher speeds. New carbon fibre side pods build on those used on the Atom 4R, but are redesigned to incorporate additional cooling for the engine and gearbox, supporting the increased power and tracksessions. Carbon fibre bodywork, mudguards and aerofoils further reduce weight of the 4RR.

The Atom 4RR rides on forged wheels – 7Jx16 at the front and 9Jx17 at the rear – fitted with road legal Yokohama A052 tyres in 195/50R16 and 255/40R17 sizes. This combination gives the 4RR immense mechanical grip and precise steering feel, essential for its intended level of performance.

Driverfocused instrumentation and ownership experience

The cockpit of the 4RR features a motorsportinspired, scrollable TFT display providing lap timing, performance and delta metrics, plus essential race-focused vehicle information. Every driverfacing element is designed to maximise feedback and minimise distraction, from the tactile pedal box and the precision of the sequential shift system to the stripped-back aesthetic and lightweight seating.

Ariel offers a truly bespoke ownership experience that includes optional driver training with the company’s chief test driver, as well as the opportunity to visit the factory and see cars during the build.

The Ariel Atom 4RR is the company’s most exclusive model ever available to the most discerning track and road-driving enthusiasts. Each bespoke engine and car is built-to-order, representing 25 years of Ariel expertise and featuring only the best-of-the-best components. The Ariel Atom 4RR is priced from £208,000 plus taxes and is available strictly to order in extremely limited numbers.

Tailoring an Ariel vehicle to a customer’s specific driving preferences and usage scenarios has been a hallmark of the company’s service since its foundation in 2000. Every Ariel is built to individual customer specification and the Atom 4RR takes this philosophy to another level with every component and option discussed and evaluated between the customer and Ariel team. 

Where the regular Atom spans road to track, and the Atom 4R balances both with enhanced intensity, the Atom 4RR is track-biased and road capable. Through the individual customisation process, a customer can take the 4RR to race car specification levels, with options including a plated differential, electronically controlled dampers, motorsport approved roll cage and even on-board air jacks.
