Here are our top 10 cars for sale by Iconic Auctioneers at the 2023 Silverstone Festival. Note that these are the top 10 cars that we liked/ were gripped by, would like to have in our collection, that is the defining criteria. So here goes….

1962 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL. Right hand drive.

Less and 17,000 miles from new and one of 53 UK supplied cars. Complete with fitted luggage, hardtop and signed confirmation of the cars history during prior 45 years old ownership. Odometer reading 16,884. The estimate sale price was £145,000 to £160,000. That is a hell of a lot of money. Probably the most expensive right hand drive 190 SL that I’ve seen to date. But it is in lovely condition and if you can’t afford 300SL, which is £1 million plus these days, this 190SL is probably the next best thing. It has to be said this car is in beautiful condition. Sold for: £163,125.

1983 Porsche 911 SC Targa

Fabulous UK supplied SE target was just 8653 miles from new and freshly service by Porsche. Odometer reading 8635. Estimate £100-£115,000. I love the interior. Very very cool in my opinion.

1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SL Pagoda (W113)

Fully restored and exceptionally well presented, this impressive, 2.8 L Pagoda has benefited from over £33,000 worth of expenditure during current ownership. Odometer reading is 21,081km. It’s a left-hand drive. Estimate is £65-£75,000. It is a beautiful car in very good condition. Sold for: £63,000.

1961 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL

As glamorous today as they were when launched in the 1950s, the sweeping lines of these elegant roasters is a test of time. This car has an odometer reading of 94,000km. Estimate £70-£80,000. It also comes with a hardtop. This is not in mint condition, but what a car for that money. Paint work looks good too okay. The chrome work is acceptable for the age, but in need some work if you wanted it to be immaculate. I’m not a massive fan of the dark grey, but it does look good. Sold for: £72,562.

1978 Porsche 911 SE coupe

Superbly rebuilt SE with widebody work, a 3.8 RS spoiler and those iconic Martini stripes. This car was subject to an extensive restoration since 2017 and was completed in 2022. Over £100,000 invested into this stunning Porsche by the owner. It has a huge history file going back to the early 1980s. Fitted with an RS body kit and also painted in martini colours. Apparently this was done as the owner of the vehicle has a daughter that works at Williams F1 and he thought it would be fitting for the car to be painted in their colours. £8000 engine rebuild in 2022 Porsche specialist. Looks really cool and we love it. Odometer reading 19,000, 179. Estimate £62-£70,000. I’m pretty certain this will fetch that money. Did not sell. Buy it now for £71,300.

1964 Fiat 500 Abarth 595 SS

On offer for my private collection, this is an original 595 SS. That’s been upgraded to a 695 SS. Great Italian history and the kudos of a recent high-profile magazine feature. Odometer reading 3709. I cannot believe that is the only miles it’s ever done from 1964. Estimate £30-£35,000. I think this car is very cool. I would be very tempted to buy this.

Highest bid was for £20,500 + fees, did not sell, Buy it now for £27,050 according to the website.

1959 Jaguar XK 150 3.4S Fixed Head Coupe

One of only 86 3.4 SSHC is built and benefiting from light upgrade to suit modern mode driving. Odometer reading 50,146. Estimate £60-£70,000. I do love these cars. I think they’re beautiful. But I do prefer the XK120 from anaesthetics perspective. Sold for: £61,875.

1959 DeSoto Fireflight Sportsmans Coupe

Possibly one of the most evocative of all American coupes of the 1950s, the delightful, the lovely, the De Soto firefly. Odometer reading is 36,519 miles. Estimated £25-£30,000. Sold for: £26,437. That has to be the best value for money, if you base your value on the size of the car vs price.

1991 Bentley Mulsanne S

This brightly-huge MoleskineS has covered just over 29,000 miles and remains in fabulous condition. Odometer reading is 29,086 miles. Estimate £20-£25,000.

I have to ask the question that these cars which were some of the most expensive cars of the time why they’re so cheap now. I’m assuming it has to be because you’re very expensive to fix and have very large 6 L engines or thereabouts.

1966 Austin Mini Cooper S Mk 1 Ex-Merseyside Police Car

An ex-Merseyside police car, 1275S previously restored and powered by a Downton 970S unit. Odometer reading 29,808 miles. Estimate £20-£25,000. Very cool.

1967 Abarth 595 SNC replica

Fully restored-upgraded over two years to faithfully 595 specs by a club member, fully run in and in superb condition; great fun and value. Odometer reading 1365 miles. I can’t believe that’s from new, it must be from reconditioned engine stage. Estimate £14,000-£18,000. I would definitely consider buying this car at the lower estimate price. So cool. Sold for: £15,750.
