Tips on Moving if You Own a Small Car
So you’ve made the decision to move. That’s great, but now it’s time to start thinking about all your stuff. If you own a small car, this can be a particular challenge. You’ll either have to find a moving company to help you, or think about how to stuff all your belongings into your tiny little trunk.
Now, there are several things to take into consideration when contemplating a move. Certainly if you are a business owner, you will need help. If you own a restaurant, for example, and need to move all of your equipment, you’ll need to hire restaurant equipment movers to help you. But if you’re just downsizing to a smaller apartment, you should take a hard look at your belongings.

We know what moving can be like. We’ve all been through it at some point. Just the stress of leaving your beloved home can weigh on you significantly. And the thought of potentially giving up some of your belongings can be especially painful.
So before you get started with any decisions about what to keep and what to discard, step back and take a deep breath. And remember that we are living in the digital age.
Clothing can have a special meaning for us. That sweater that was a gift from a special friend. The dress that you wore to your prom. The coat you survived the brutal winter in.
As you’re looking, you should ask yourself some questions:
● How much will I realistically wear these things again?
● Is the climate I’m moving to suitable for all these clothes?
● Are there things at the bottom of my drawers simply collecting dust because they haven’t been touched in so long?
You might love all your sweaters, but if you’re moving to Florida you should be realistic about how often you will need them in the future. And although there is a possibility you might go skiing sometime, that doesn’t necessarily justify keeping the winter parka. As for your prom dress, do you really think you’re ever going to have occasion for that level of frill in the future?
Same goes for furniture and trinkets
If you’re a small car owner, the likelihood is that you will not take any of your furniture with you. Unless, of course, you hire a mover. As for all your souvenirs, think about which ones are really the most important for you to have in physical form. We all like some more than others, and downsizing can help us appreciate the ones we’re left with even more.
Most importantly, remember: pretty much anything can be digitized these days. Your prom pictures, the shots of your dinner parties with those vases on the table, your ski weekend in Vale…all of those memories can be kept in a cloud, not taking up any physical room at all and remaining as crisp and clear as the day you captured them.
The other thing you should remember is to pack your suitcases, boxes, and car in a systematic and logical manner. This is something that takes skill, so you should take the time to learn effective packing techniques:
● Utilize free corners in boxes and suitcases. Fill them with socks, cloths, and other things that will help fill the spaces. This will not only help you reduce the number of containers you carry, but also help protect your belongings as they will have some padding between them and the sides of the containers.
● Use vacuum containers whenever possible. These handy little bag-like objects can reduce the amount of space taken up by sweaters and other bulky objects by a remarkable amount. Think about which of your clothes might be good candidates for these containers.
● Be as careful with where you place boxes as you are with what you put in them. If you’re utilizing the back seat area of the car, be sure that nothing breakable is placed precariously on the seat as you never know when you might suddenly have to screech to a halt on the highway.
You’ll be happy when it’s over
As difficult as the process might be, you will surely feel a sense of relief when the moving process is over. Moving in will be much easier, for one thing. And you’ll be able to sit back and enjoy your new, decluttered home as you build your new life around it. And maybe later you can consider getting a bigger car.
