Silverstone Festival 2025 is gearing up to celebrate 75 years of Formula 1 with a one-off display that’s nothing short of historic. The World Champions Collection will feature race cars driven by all 34 Formula 1 World Champions at the very track where the championship began in 1950.

Thanks to the generous support of McLaren Racing, five of its legendary F1 drivers will be represented in the display – adding serious star power to an already iconic line-up.

Five Title-Winning McLarens Join the Grid

McLaren’s racing pedigree is among the strongest in motorsport, and the team is going all out for the Silverstone Festival. Visitors can expect to see five title-winning McLaren machines driven by:

  • Ayrton Senna (1988, 1990, 1991)
  • James Hunt (1976)
  • Alain Prost (1985, 1986, 1989)
  • Mika Häkkinen (1998, 1999)
  • Sir Lewis Hamilton (2008)

Each of these cars represents a golden moment in Formula 1 history – and for McLaren fans, this is the kind of garage fantasy come true.

Celebrating a Legacy of Champions

McLaren’s journey began in 1966 when Bruce McLaren entered his first F1 race at Monaco. Since then, the team has racked up an enviable record:

  • 12 Drivers’ Championships
  • 9 Constructors’ Championships
  • 7 legendary World Champions

While the cars of Hunt, Prost, Senna, Häkkinen, and Hamilton will take centre stage, fans can also spot tributes to McLaren’s other title-winners – Emerson Fittipaldi (1974) and Niki Lauda (1984) – completing the marque’s full championship legacy.

Why It Matters

This is the first time in history that a complete display of F1 World Champions’ cars has been brought together – and where better than Silverstone, the spiritual home of Formula 1?

Nick Wigley, Silverstone Festival Event Director, summed it up:

“McLaren has an amazing record of title-winning success in F1, and it’s only right they should be so well represented. The cars all have great provenance and will be a brilliant addition to our anniversary celebrations.”

McLaren’s COO Piers Thynne echoed the sentiment, calling the collection a key part of the team’s commitment to honouring its heritage:

“Celebrating our legacy is part of McLaren’s culture, and something we’re very proud of as a team.”

More Than Just a Static Display

While the World Champions Collection will be the main draw, it’s far from the only reason to attend Silverstone Festival 2025.

Expect five spectacular F1-themed races throughout the Bank Holiday weekend. From the early front-engined cars of the 1950s to the roaring DFV-powered machines of the seventies and early eighties, the action promises to be loud, fast and deeply nostalgic.

One of the standout races will feature a record-breaking grid of 500cc Formula 3 cars – echoing the very first points-scoring F1 race held at Silverstone in 1950. These tiny terrors were the opening act back then, and now they’re back for a starring role.
