Goodwood Festival of Speed 2025 to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of Formula 1

Goodwood Festival of Speed 2025 is revving up for a historic celebration — and Formula 1 is taking centre stage. In honour of the 75th anniversary of the Formula 1 World Championship, this year’s event promises one of the biggest tributes to the sport ever staged on British soil.

From the roar of past champions to the precision of modern engineering, this celebration of speed, style and innovation will bring nearly 100 F1 cars to life at the heart of West Sussex.

A Grand Tribute to Formula 1’s 75 Years

Since 1950, Formula 1 has defined global motorsport. It’s a stage where the fastest meet the finest, and where legends are made. The Goodwood Festival of Speed 2025 will honour this incredible journey with a six-part showcase, each diving into a unique era or aspect of F1’s legacy.

Here’s how the event will break it down:

Prologue – Before the Beginning

Before Formula 1, there was the AIACR Manufacturers’ World Championship, launched in 1925. This section explores the roots of Grand Prix racing, laying the groundwork for what was to come.

The Pioneers – F1’s First Decade

This class highlights the first ten years of Formula 1. Expect rare cars and stories from a time when the championship was still finding its place on the world stage.

The Innovators – Racing Meets Ingenuity

Formula 1 has always been about pushing limits. From ground-effect aerodynamics to hybrid powertrains, technical innovation has shaped every generation of racing. This class pays tribute to the genius minds behind the machines.

The Underdogs – Forgotten But Fearless

Not every F1 story is about dominance. Some are about grit, resilience and dreams undone. This section shines a spotlight on the teams and drivers who challenged the odds – and sometimes, won.

The Champions – Icons of the Track

From Fangio to Hamilton, this section brings together the teams, drivers, and cars that earned their place in F1 history. With at least eight World Champions expected to attend, fans can expect goosebumps.

The Teams – The Modern Powerhouses

Today’s giants of the grid will also be in attendance, giving visitors a close-up look at current F1 teams, cars, and drivers. It’s a rare chance to see the sport’s present-day stars outside a race weekend.

A Festival First: The Biggest F1 Celebration Yet

According to organisers, this will be the largest Formula 1 celebration ever held at the Festival of Speed. Expect the event to take over the iconic Goodwood Hill with high-speed runs, historic cars, dramatic balcony moments at Goodwood House, and celebrity appearances from across the paddock — past and present.

Stefano Domenicali, President & CEO of Formula 1, called it a “landmark anniversary,” praising Goodwood’s ability to “bring the past, present and future of motorsport to life.”

The Duke of Richmond, who founded the festival, echoed the excitement. “Fans should stay tuned,” he teased, hinting at more names and details to come.

Why This Event Matters

The partnership between Formula 1 and Goodwood represents a rare fusion of tradition and innovation. It offers fans a front-row seat to the sport’s evolution — from cigar-shaped racers of the 1950s to the fire-breathing hybrid machines of today.

More than that, it makes motorsport history accessible. You don’t need a pit pass or a grandstand ticket to get close to F1’s legends — just a day at Goodwood this July.
