30 of the most Weird and Wonderful Steering Wheels
Tesla have released details for the new Model S including the ‘Plaid’ model which boasts 1,100bhp along with a £130,000 price tag. The fact that it promises a 520 mile range and a sub-9 second quarter mile and 0-60mph in two seconds, all that people are commenting on is the weird steering wheel.
Tesla are not the first to try and re-invent the steering wheel, manufacturers have introduced some weird and wonderful designs over the decades. Some were just concepts but most of those show here made it onto production vehicles.
Being of a certain age we had to start with the most classic ‘square’ steering wheel ever to be featured on a standard British built car, The Austin Allegro ‘Quartec’ wheel.

And Finally, this Peugeot was stopped by police in the UK and they found the driver was using a molegrip as a ‘steering wheel’!!
