Ferrari’s road cars: the Fiorano circuit lap records!
I recently came across an interesting set of facts, what are the fastest lap times of by Ferrari’s around the Ferrari test track, Fiorano Circuit.
Built in 1972, it is 8.4 metres (27.6 ft) wide and 2,976.41 metres. The average F1 lap speed is over 160 km/h (99 mph) and the F1 top speed is 290 km/h (180 mph). As Fiorano is a testing track, it has a wide range of corner types, with corner diameters between 370 metres (1,213.9 ft) and 13.71 metres (45.0 ft). Thus, Ferrari is able to simulate corner and track types of other Grand Prix circuits.
The best guide to Fiorano that I can find is fastlaps.com, some other sites have additional times such as Wikipedia, but they include some odd-looking ones (most likely in modified race prepared cars).
I am focusing here on the Ferrari road cars only, so here goes, you will be surprised:
1. Ferrari 599 GTO : 1 minute 24 seconds
2. Ferrari Enzo : 1 minute 24.9 seconds
3. Ferrari 458 Italia : 1 minute 25 seconds
4. Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano HGTE : 1 minute 25.9 seconds
5. Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano : 1 minute 26.5 seconds
6. Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale : 1 minute 26.5 seconds
7. Ferrari F430 Scuderia Spider 16M : 1 minute 26.5 seconds
8. Ferrari F50 : 1 minute 27 seconds
9. Ferrari F430 : 1 minute 27 seconds
10. Ferrari F430 Spyder : 1 minute 27 seconds
11. Ferrari F40 : 1 minute 29.6 seconds
12. Ferrari 612 Scaglietti : 1 minute 30.5 seeonds
13. Ferrari 360 Modena : 1 minute 31 seconds
14. Ferrari 575 Maranello : 1 minute 31.5 seconds
15. Ferrari 550 Maranello : 1 minute 32.5 seconds
16. Ferrari F355 : 1 minute 34 seconds
17. Ferrari 512TR : 1 minute 35 seconds
18. Ferrari 456 GT : 1 minute 35 seconds
19. Ferrari 288 GTO : 1 minute 36 seconds
20. Ferrari Testarossa : 1 minute 36 seconds
Surprised by these results? Well it is a great achievement for the Ferrari F430 Spyder to achieve the same time as the coupe. Ferrari 458 Italia in at number 3 is amazing. Nice to see the Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale at number 6, better than the Ferrari F430 Scuderia Spider 16M, F50, F40 and 288 GTO.
