Postcard from the 2018 Concours of Elegance
Here is our postcard from the 2018 Concours of Elegance. I truly love this event, and it’s one that I look forward to every year. Why? The surroundings are unique. Since the inaugural 2012 the event has taken place in the UKs palaces, including St.James Palace (London), Windsor Castle (Windsor), Palace of Holyroodhouse (Edinburgh) and it’s current permanent destination Hampton Court (Hampton), all exceptional buildings of significant historical and architectural significance. The event is not packed with people, and you can get to see everything in 1 day (although notably there are different things happening on different days). The cars on display are often very rare, unique (1 of 1) or coachbuilt, desirable, iconic, cool and beautiful, all the things we love at my car heaven.
We attended on day 1, the Friday this year. It is quieter given its the VIP Preview Day, with the public opening days on the Saturday and Sunday. It seemed quieter than last year in terms of cars on show, but there was still plenty to see, as you’ll see from our gallery above and from all our photos from the the 2018 Concours of Elegance.
What were out highlights? Seeing the cars of course. I saw several cars for the very first time, such as the 2017 Rolls-Royce Sweptail, 2018 Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Speedster, 1903 Panhard Et Levassor 15 HP, the fast production made McLaren F1 (with it’s one off colour of Yquem), 1909 Isotta Fraschini Fenc Tipo A, 1951 Ferrari 166MM/212 Export ‘Uovo’, 1914 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost Torpedo Phaeton (below), 1929 Rolls-Royce Phantom I Brewster Riviera, and 1961 Intermeccanica IMP 700 GT.
We took loads of pictures and videos throughout the day, posting them on our social channels: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. Make sure you’re following us on one of these if you want to.
We spoke to many of the owners, and people looking after the cars on behalf of the owners, which is always very cool and fascinating.

Loudest car of the day was the beautiful 1964 Porsche 904 Carrerra GTS (below)

Coolest car of the day (so many to choose from), but I’d have to say the 1969 Porsche 917K that Steve McQueen drove in the movie LeMans (below).

Most odd looking car of the day has to be the 1951 Ferrari 166MM/212 Export ‘Uovo’ (below)

Most beautiful car of the car (always a contentious one), but I’d go for the 1962 Ferrari 250 SWB Berlinetta Scaglietti (below).

Our favourite car in the Club Trophy category did not win, but it was this superb condition and looking Mercedes-Benz 600 (below).

A wonderful event again, beautiful array of cars, lots of facts divulged on those cars both in the event book produced and via the presentation stages on the day (of which we’ve got a few videos, that you can watch either on our YouTube channel, or as we post them on this site). Already looking forward to next year and eagerly awaiting the announcement of what cars will be on show.
