A Look Ahead to the Concours of Elegance 2022, its 10th Anniversary

2022’s Concours of Elegance show is fast-approaching and will include an all new display: ‘The Year in Motion’. This category will show the finest, most incredible cars launched in the past year, lining up alongside the fantastic main Concours class of over 70 cars in the grounds of Hampton Court Palace.

The high profile event will run from Friday 2nd to Sunday 4th September.

The year’s most thrilling new car releases to be showcased at Hampton Court Palace are as follows:

RML SWB (Short Wheelbase)

An up-to-date incarnation of the 60s GT car formula, the Short Wheelbase is clearly inspired by the finely proportioned Ferrari 250 GT SWB. The curvaceous shape is reimagined for the 21st century, with ultra-lightweight carbon panels powered by a 5.5-litre Ferrari V12. More information on this car here. Unfortunately it looks as though it will cost £1.35m, ouch.

.

Ferrari 296 GTB

This plug-in-hybrid 296 presents a new era for Ferrari, delivering a mid-mounted V6 nestled under the 250 LM aping rear haunches, and all four wheels powered by electric motors. The GTB’s twin-turbo six revs remarkably all the way to 8,500 rpm, delivering 654 bhp, with a further 165 bhp supplied by the electric motors for good measure.

.

Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS

The GT4 RS finally gives petrolheads what they’ve been waiting for since the launch of the Cayman back in 2005 – a mid-mounted full-fat Porsche GT motorsport motor. It’s the same 493 bhp 3.8-litre flat-six that powered the 911 GT3. The wild-sounding, intoxicating motor is something else, revving all the way to 9,000 rpm, driving through a closely stacked seven-speed PDK gearbox.

.

Morgan Super 3

The Super 3 has the challenge of replacing the much-enthused 3 Wheeler model, which charmed fans with its classic British style and unique driving experience over its a ten-year production run. The Super 3 is a more modern vehicle, Morgan’s first ‘clean sheet’ design since the Aero 8.

.

Further Exciting Features For 2022

Outside the Main Concours event, nearly 1,000 cars will gather at Hampton Court Palace across a number of different features and classes. Here are the latest announcements:

75 Years of Ferrari

Distilling seventy years of iconic sports car development into one display is a challenge in itself, but Ferrari celebrates its 75th anniversary, so the 2022 Concours of Elegance is planning to gather Ferrari’s most legendary models; the Stirling Moss-raced 250 SWB, the 250 GTO, the one-of-two 365 P ’The Post’, and more.

.

Coach built Pioneers

In an exploration of the roots of Concours D’Elegance, the event organisers plan to gather some of the earliest examples of coach built motor cars. These pre-war legends were attentively designed, delicately crafted and rightly appointed as the ultimate designator of exclusivity in the early days of vehicles.

.

An Aston Martin Celebration

Unquestionably one of the world’s greatest sports car makers, represented by its most iconic and sought-after models. An exceptional line-up of vehicles underlines the genius of Aston Martin’s ‘DB’ era and beyond, as well as its enduring partnership with Italian design house, Zagato.

.

The Levitt Concours

This year’s show will pay homage to Dorothy Levitt, once known as ‘The fastest girl on earth’. Born in 1882, she was a racing pioneer, challenging the ‘norms’ of society about the role of women. The Levitt Concours will display cars of all ages, owned and driven by women.

Away from the cars…

The Concours of Elegance Partners

A line-up of more than 50 of the most exclusive brands in the world include:

A. Lange & Söhne

This year’s Concours of Elegance will see A. Lange & Söhne present a one-of-a-kind version of the 1815 CHRONOGRAPH, two months before being auctioned off in Geneva on 6 November by Phillips in Association with Bacs & Russo. The proceeds of this exquisite timepiece, featuring a hand-engraved hinged cuvette and a black dial with sandstone-coloured numerals will go to The Prince’s Trust, a youth charity set up by HRH The Prince of Wales.

.

10th Anniversary Celebration Champagne

Charles Heidsieck is celebrating its tenth year as the Concours of Elegance’s Official Champagne Partner with a specially designed magnum. ‘Concours of Elegance 10th Anniversary Edition’ Brut Millésimé 2012 is a limited release of only 150 magnums, available exclusively at the 2022 Concours of Elegance. The Special-Edition magnum will be presented in an elegant wooden box featuring the 10th Anniversary logo, with a label designed especially for the Concours of Elegance, displaying magnificent illustrations of winning cars, including the first winner from 2012. Sounds very cool and probably expensive.

.

The Chubb Interviews

Concours of Elegance are delighted to welcome back their official insurance partner, Chubb, to this year’s show. Chubb will be joined by automotive content creator, Mr JWW, who will be hosting their exclusive Chubb interviews with famous faces from the automotive world. Previous guests include Richard Hammond and Derek Bell.  Pay a visit to the Chubb enclosure between 2-4 September to hear fascinating insights, as well as getting a glimpse of a stunning array of beautiful cars.

.

Gooding & Company

Their official auction partner Gooding & Company’s London sale will take place at the Concours of Elegance, with a stunning selection of lots going under the hammer on Saturday 3rd September. Among the motor cars on offer will be a 1960 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Competizione, a 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera 2.8 RSR, a 1965 Aston Martin DB5 Convertible, and a 1932 Bugatti Type 55 Convertible. Very nice indeed.
