Join us for this year’s Footman James Sywell Classic – Pistons and Props motoring festival, combining historic racers, hot rods and motorbikes with classic planes and vintage music to create a fantastic two-day event, celebrating classic motoring on the ground and in the air. This wonderful event will be held on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th September 2016 at Sywell Aerodrome, Hall Farm, Sywell, Northampton, NN6 0BN.
Watch amazing live action on the transformed ‘Racing Runway’ and ‘Sprint Strip’ with iconic Formula 1 cars, Group B Rally cars, Hot Rods, Dragsters and Motorcycles all in action throughout the weekend. Up in the skies; expect to see a variety of breath taking aerial displays & acrobatics from a variety of display teams.
Live Music will be played throughout the weekend with a superb line of bands performing in the Footman James sponsored Scarf & Goggles bar. With a vintage fun fair and shopping village, make a weekend of it as camping packages are available. It’s a great weekend for all the family.

My first vehicle. A Ford Escort 1.3 Van. I brought it for £60 and had loads of fun in it over several years. It was in grey primer when I brought it, and still was when I sold it, but I had upgraded it with a Cortina 1.6l engine. Very simple to work on and great to drive.

Jaguar E-type – if Enzo Ferrari calls it the best looking car ever designed, it’s good enough for me. We also had one as our wedding car, so it holds a special place.

I, like many others have been a serial classic car owner since I learnt to drive. After I meet my now wife I went back to meet the parents. Peter Tothill, my late father in law, it turned out was a professional petrolhead. He then owned a parts business in Abingdon, however I found out he had been a senior production engineer in Oxford since his apprenticeship with what became British Leyland, he hand built the first Mini at Cowley, pre production.
One of the cars he worked on was the MG Magnette ZB, he did the suspension engineering at MIRA with Gerald Palmer, the cars designer. Ten years ago I went down to Devon to collect a ZB for spares, however due to its specification Peter decided to restore it. ( It has a rare HRG Derrington crossflow head )
Six years into the restoration Peter sadly passed away. I brought the car in the February with a mission to get it finished for MG Live 2013.
I finished the car with 2 days to spare and made it to Silverstone, the first time in 25 years the car had been on the road. I still have the car and keep developing it as I know Peter would have done. It is now lives with a 1959 MGA which I have just finished. The car is used regularly in salt free conditions and will be with the Sporting Bears at the NEC raising money for charity. It’s not going anywhere soon.
Austin Healey 3000. Its always been my dream car and being 66 this year I know it’s a proper race car.
My 1969 VW Beetle, which is the same age as my husband – I won’t say which is in better condition though!!!!
A 1972 Series III Land Rover.
I cut my engineering teeth as a boy of 14 when I helped to convert a petrol version MkIII to a Diesel. We had to strip it down to the chassis and weld / rebuild virtually everything. Fell in love with these vehicles ever since.
My Mazda RX3 Coupe.
Had hours of fun racing my Red RX3 usually No 30 Many class and race wins, many happy memories in my rotary engined classic.
